I came from a place where it didn't matter what time you got in the house, as long as you got in there safe. From doing anything I wanted to getting into trouble with the cops. This is my story.
When I was thirteen, I still lived in Metropolis. I done everything I wanted, and there was nobody there to stop me. I got into trouble with the cops for the first time when I was eleven years old. I got accused of prank calling a girl. And her parents didn't like the messages that were sent to her phone. They let me off the hook the first time. Two years past, and my mom and dad got divorced. Things were just falling apart. When I was thirteen, I got into trouble with the cops for breaking and entering a hotel without permission. I got two years of probation. And I got hailed back one grade.
August 6, I started school in Crittenden County. I felt like a loser. I had messed up so bad in Metropolis I had to get hailed back one grade level. I felt like a disgrace. The hardest thing I have ever done was leave Metropolis because that's where all my family is. I had a newborn nephew at the time, and I had to leave my sisters, and mother.
At the same time, coming here was the best thing that ever happened to me. It was a big change. I had a time to be in the house. I couldn't do what I wanted. It was a big change that saved my life. Most of my family has been in and out of prison, and if I didn't get away, I'd end up just like them. Leaving there taught me to do better than the people in Metropolis. Its a dump there. There poverty level is below then what it should be. Who wants to live in a dump? Life was a mess at the time. Me and my sisters basically raised our self after my step dad had left.
I've been living in Marion for 3 years and I own more stuff that my own mother. Its so sad but I can actually say Im doing better in life. Im going to stay in Marion until I feel that its right to move back. This story is short but its my story..
Cory, its so good to know that you are doing better. After reading this I feel like you didn't have any chance to become anything of yourself in Metropolis but since you have learned your lesson (right?) I think you will be something. Plus your always makinnnnnggg that money- so don't quit!
ReplyDeleteEverybody has a story. Yours is one you'll be able to tell and people will be able to learn something from. You'll know what can (will) happen when you mess up unlike some people who don't. Overcoming bad things only makes you a stronger person. :)
